Hey there!
My name is Sydni ~ I'm the one runnin' this one-woman-show.
The way I operate is the epitome of chaotic right-brained creativity and I've embraced my disorganized way of being. Creating with my hands is like a meditation among the chaos to me; it's both an escape and a rejuvenating practice that I've been developing for several years. It teaches me patience and allows me to practice my creative problem-solving daily. It allows me to express who I am and get to know myself in new ways.
Origins
I grew up thrift shopping with my mom and two sisters; that's how we got the majority of our stuff! So I've never been one for really extravagant items, but I always enjoyed spicing up my thrifted outfits with a really cool necklace, pair of earrings, or rings (and at this point in my life, usually all 3)! I think growing up the way I did inadvertently taught me to be thrify and resourceful; using what I had access to in order to create something new, unique, and inspired.
In a way, this led me to become a self-taught handmade jeweler. Everything I make is created solely from inspiration, experimentation, creative problem-solving, and curiosity.
How did I start making jewelry?
I started this practice by collecting beads, buttons, and broken pieces of jewelry. After years of collecting and doing nothing with my collection, I finally got some tools and began playing and casually re-purposing my collection into wearable things (albeit TERRIBLY made things!). Turned out I loved making jewelry , and I pride myself on my creative resourcefulness, so I decided to harness that skill and pair it with my love of creating! From this, Sweet Mettle slowly came into fruition!
"Sweet Mettle" is more than just a name for my business
It signifies the beauty in juxtaposition, and nods at the complexity and nuances of self expression. My style is one of simple, unique, and sometimes juxtaposed influences and materials, and I fully believe that there is beauty in the details. I love to play with rugged, rustic, antique, natural, chic, elegant, and bohemian inspired styles - mixing and contrasting themes to create unique spins and authentic pieces.
"Sweet" represents the elegant, chic, humble side of my style to be directly juxtaposed with "Mettle"; the tougher, edgier, and more rugged influences.
As an individual, I consider myself someone who on one hand can be sweet, charismatic, and gentle, but harmoniously gritty, tough, and full of character as well - just like Sweet Mettle.
I hope you enjoy the fruits of my journey as an inspired creator!
I treat my customers with the honesty and respect you deserve. I want you to feel the same pride and excitement when wearing my creations that I do in making them.
When you order from me, whether it's your first or tenth time, I promise to provide you with my best customer service. I'll treat you like a friend. Hell, I've made a lot of friends out of new customers! I give my undivided focus to your piece while I create it. And if you're new to custom orders, I got you. I'll help you with the entire process. XO
